Sustainability

We recognise that every business has a vital role to play when it comes to the promotion of sustainability within their supply chains, resource management and day to day best practice and we try to adopt sustainable measures for a positive impact wherever we can.

There is a high volume of plastic use within the industry and the lack of obvious alternative solutions is challenging. Whilst we were optimistic that the new Extended Producer Responsibility Regulations would enable change to occur at pace, unfortunately recycled plastic is subject to the same economic forces as everything else therefore we are no longer able to recycle our plant trays at this time.

We do continue to bale our cardboard which is collected through Binit and taken directly to Exeter for recycling and we hope to continue with the pallet wrap where market forces allow.

Compost Bag & Plant Pot Recycling Days

On selected weekends throughout the year, we host a Plant Pot & Compost Bag Recycling Amnesty.

Customers are welcome to bring their empty plastic compost bags and clean hard plastic plant pots of all sizes to our collection point on the published dates for recycling.

Note: we are unable to accept any trays or polystyrene, and we can only accept pots and compost bags for recycling on the set dates organised.

OTHER INITIATIVES

Solar Panels – We are currently not generating any electricity as our panels were lost in the recent fire, but they will be reinstated when the rebuild build is complete.

Crisp Packets & Sachets – We collect crisp packets consumed in the Glasshouse Café and Restaurant Tea Room which are dropped off at Terracycle recycling points. https://www.terracycle.com/

We have also moved from sachets to bottles in the Glasshouse café as they are fully recyclable.

Re-Usable Cups – Customers bringing their own re-usable cups for hot drinks consumed in the Glasshouse Cafe or to take away will receive a discount.
